Start with Consecration

In our fresh v0.127.0 character screen, Paladin displays 245 health and Consecration as its starting spell. The same character has 0 of 54 pieces collected, 0 of 51 talent points and Elwynn Forest open. Your own character's progression and selected race may differ.

Use the first-run guide for the opening controls and level-up screen, then compare the other starting classes in the class guide.

Compare the three talent trees

The menu lists Holy milestones as Divine Favor at 10 points, Daybreak at 20, and Light's Grace at 30. Protection lists Hallowed Ground, Ardent Defender and Hammer of the Righteous at the same respective thresholds. Retribution lists Seal of Command, The Art of War and Divine Storm.

These labels identify where to look, not a recommendation to invest in every milestone. The menu says a row opens at five points spent in its tree, and its 10-, 20- and 30-point milestones change how spells play. Point at individual talents to read their current descriptions and any additional prerequisites.

Protection milestone prerequisites

On the v0.127.0 menu, Hallowed Ground requires 10 points in Protection. Ardent Defender requires 20 points in Protection and one rank in Hallowed Ground. Hammer of the Righteous requires 30 points in Protection and one rank in Ardent Defender.

The Hallowed Ground panel says a landed Hammer of Justice triggers a free Consecration beneath you at most once every four seconds. Ardent Defender says you start each run with Hammer of Justice; Consecration raises a shield, and damage increases while a shield holds. The Hammer of the Righteous panel describes a maximum-health increase and additional effects based on health and shields. These are displayed descriptions for three unlearned 0/1 nodes, not a combat test or a complete point-by-point build.

Earn points before copying a finished tree

The talent screen states that runs grant Paladin talent experience for time survived, kills, bosses and a win, with more in harder zones; it also says respecs are free. Our fresh character showed zero earned points and zero spent. We did not measure the experience formula, spend points or test a respec.

A finished 51-point screenshot does not reveal the order its player bought talents. Use the build overview to compare recorded examples and their progression limits.

Compare equipment and a recorded run

A developed Paladin may have gear unavailable to a fresh character. The equipment guide explains how to compare a treasure offer with your collection.

For a separate example, Zergs' 27 October Paladin recording shows a treasure offer around 1:30. The recording's game version and final result have not been verified; the offer alone does not establish the player's final selection or a complete build.

Original video checkpoint

A recorded Protection build: 13/31/7

Holdherhand's 25 October video shows a developed Paladin on v0.115.0. At about 0:21 the talent screen shows 13 Holy, 31 Protection and 7 Retribution points, all 51 earned points spent, and Hammer of the Righteous at rank 1/1. The character has 47 of 54 equipment pieces; the finished screen does not show the order those points were earned or purchased.

At 27:25, the same recording displays Victory in Naxxramas for a Human Paladin: 20:20 survived, level 80 and five bosses slain. That is one developed character's result on the recorded version, not a controlled comparison or a guarantee for a new character.

Consecration amulet in the older recording

At 0:38 the video displays Amulet of the Inferno in the Codex. The v0.115.0 tooltip lists Consecration +50% area, +100% duration and +50% damage. It says enemies killed by Consecration explode for 30% of their maximum health, at most twice per second, and the amulet is offered only after the hero knows the spell.

A Codex entry is not proof the item was offered or selected during that run. The item's current effects, the full card-selection sequence and the build's performance in later versions remain unverified; inspect the current game before using an older item's numbers.

What remains untested

We have not tested the three trees in combat on the current version, verified all their current effects, compared clearing speed or established an optimal 51-point allocation. Check tooltips in the current game before spending points and treat older videos as examples of their own characters.
